Ramin Ali Marandi Ghoddousi
Educational Background
I graduated from UC Davis with a BS/BA in Psychology and French Language, and performed undergraduate reasearch in a pscyhology of emotions lab during my senior year. I wanted more experience in research involving cellular biology, so I moved across the country did a Masters Molecular and Cell Biology Masters in Braindeis University. At Brandeis, I worked on a project in Dr. Sacha Nelsons lab that was trying to understand the circuits involved in murine taste learning. Being drawn to developmental neuronscience, I completed my PhD in Dr. Pat Levitt’s lab at USC with a focus on the effects of molecular and cellular heterogeneity on vagal and cortical development.
Role in Lab
I joined Dr. Geschwind’s lab as a postdoc in December of 2023. In the Geschwind lab, I have been working on three separate projects focused on the molecular underpinnings of ASD and SCZ: 1) Investigating whether transcriptomic and other molecular profiles in the brain can explain sex-differential diagnostic rates in ASD, 2) performing high-thoroughput molecular, structural, and functional phenotyping of ASD and SCZ risk-gene knockouts in hiPSC derived neurons and organoids, and 3) investigating the transcriptomic differences between ASD and typically developing cortex an thalamus at a single cell resolution.
